Owning a store can take everything out of you. You’re juggling inventory, staff, customers, and cash flow… and somewhere along the way, you forget you. That is not the life of a Richer Retailer.
In this episode of the Richer Retailer podcast I sit down with internationally acclaimed speaker and business coach Pat Mussieux, who shares how she transformed her life twice and built a powerful foundation of health, wealth, and happiness along the way. Let her inspire you on your path to becoming a richer retailer.

Reinvention Isn’t Just Possible, It’s Necessary
At 58, Pat Mussieux hit a breaking point.
- Her marriage was ending
- Her health was suffering
- Her spark was gone
She grabbed a green garbage bag, packed her essentials, and walked out.
No plan. No safety net. Just a decision to put herself first—and figure out the rest as she went.
Building a Richer Life, At Any Age
What came next?
- She launched a business
- Hired a coach (even when the money wasn’t there)
- Hit six figures fast
Then at 68, another pivot. COVID canceled her speaking career. So she started again.
Today? She’s 73, thriving, and running four businesses.
The lesson: Reinvention doesn’t have a deadline. All it takes is a decision and the right mindset to back it up.
So What Are Your True Riches?
When we talk about being a “richer retailer,” we’re not just talking about revenue. We’re talking about the full picture of a successful life and business.
For Pat and for so many thriving store owners it comes down to this:
- Health: Without energy, everything suffers. Your team, your customers, your family and your joy. Prioritize your physical and mental well-being as much as your sales goals.
- Wealth: Know your numbers. Not just your profit margins and inventory turns, but your actual financial goals. A healthy business is one that pays you well, too.
- Happiness: Are you actually enjoying the journey? If your business is successful but you’re burned out, overwhelmed, or disconnected from your purpose… it’s time to realign.
The Habits That Support Retail Success
One of the most powerful parts of Pat’s story is her commitment to daily, intentional habits. These are practices you can borrow and adapt into your own routine:
- Morning time for you: movement, mindset, gratitude, and planning
- Review your goals (yes, every day)
- Hydration, nourishment, and rest—treat your body like it matters
- Quarterly self-assessments: where have you grown? Where can you improve?
- A strong “circle of five” mentors, colleagues, and inspirational figures
- Anchoring in your “why” and checking in with it regularly
You don’t have to do all of these overnight. Start with one. Make it a non-negotiable. Build from there.
The Bottom Line: Your Business Won’t Thrive if You Don’t
Too many store owners believe they have to choose: either grow your business or take care of yourself. But that’s a false choice. You can have both. You deserve both.
Whether you’re in a season of burnout, transition, or just looking for inspiration to level up this episode is for you.
Your Millie Moment:
- Define your 3 richest areas of life right now
- Choose one personal habit to make non-negotiable
- Reflect: Is what you’re doing each day contributing to your best life or contaminating it?
The lesson: Reinvention doesn’t have a deadline. All it takes is one brave decision… and the belief that you’re still becoming the person you were always meant to be. 💚
